Gold's Dragoons holds a number of sporting clays competitions each year, under the aegis of Captain of Shooting, Hugh Schoelzel, of which two are formal and trophies are awarded. The fall 2017 event was held at the Sandanona grounds in Millbrook, NY. This was followed by a sumptuous repast and grog in Salisbury, Ct, courtesy of Eric and Kristen Yohe and the Landrover "Muddy Chef" group.
The Fall 2017 shoot weather turned out splendidly: overcast and dry - perfect conditions. We enjoyed a challenging ten station, 100 round course in the great facilities of Orvis Sandanona in Millbrook. We actively encourage members of Golds who have never tried sporting clays to join us. Instruction and gun rentals are available. The invitation is also extended to spouses and adult children.
There were four Gold's Dragoon's squads. First squad "top gun" was Fred Parkin, with Paul Jagger getting the top honors in the second squad. The third squad top gun was Quentin Ryan, runner up in the Spring shoot, and today, with the highest score, winning the Kukri Cup (using a 20 gauge, no less). Fourth  team top gun was our Captain of Shooting, Hugh Schoelzel but he has yielded top honors to Susana Stevens, as most improved on the day. On her very first time shooting she went from zero to hitting four in a row, and then hit two birds with one shot.

Our next formal shoot will be on Saturday, May 12th, 2018, following the Nominating Dinner on the Friday night. We shoot throughout the year and many of the shoots are at private clubs that offer shooting challenges not open to the general public. Members who are interested  should contact the Captain of Shooting and get on his list.
